INTEGRATION OF CONVERGENCE RESEARCH IN HIGHER EDUCATION
Our efforts have focused on how to foster and sustain convergent activities and initiatives within and across of institutions. Notably our institutions span different realms of ocean, atmosphere, and space and they merge prominent academic institutions with federally-funded government research labs, private oceanographic institutions, and even federal agencies. This provides a unique platform to have a sustainable public impact across sectors. Our GCR project also comes at an opportune time. It coincides with high-level institutional rethinks of their academic missions and plans as it relates to grand challenges.
Our work spanned extensive lab-based experiments and numerous observational field campaigns that have leveraged off of multiple projects and reflect the talent, breadth and dedication of our team.
Our goals have been to connect, quantify and predict the connection between virus infection of phytoplankton, the formation/flow/fate of marine snow particles and the export flux of carbon using a variety of techniques, methods and approaches.
