My name is Cody Benton, and I’m from Wilmington, North Carolina. Growing up, I spent a lot of time at the beach surfing and working as a lifeguard, which sparked my interest in coastal oceanography. That interest deepened during my undergraduate studies, where I majored in physics and was exposed to physical oceanography for the first time. I came to Rutgers for my PhD because the work of the Ocean Modeling Group aligned with my interests, such as theory, fieldwork, and numerical modeling. My dissertation research focuses on what drives the circulation in shallow estuaries with multiple inlets and the implications for transport processes.
