Three oceanography grad students (Heidi Yeh, Austin Grubb, and Brittany Schieler) spent two days in DC on a trip sponsored by the science policy and advocacy at Rutgers (SPAR) group. They took part in science policy and communication workshops at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). They also did hill visits advocating for sustained federal funding for basic research to our congressional representatives and senators. Of about 8 or so RU grad student participants, 3 were representing Rutgers Oceanography.
In addition, Brittany recently started as the 2019 science communication intern at the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), which is also based in D.C. She is a member of the 2019 graduating class, congratulations Brittany!
