RUCOOL welcomed a new class of the Master’s program in Operational Oceanography. The program emphasizes hands-on experience in studying, deploying and operating advanced oceanographic technology.
Students spent this past week learning the background and applications of High Frequency radar for ocean remote sensing. The week was a combination of lab instruction and hands on field work visiting radar stations in Monmouth County, NJ. This course covered electromagnetic wave properties, introduction to physical oceanography and the logistics of applying HF for coastal oceanography. The week was highlighted with guest lectures from industry leaders Teresa Updyke and Jacquelyn Veatch.
The Master’s program is tailored to produce graduates who are competitive in both research and industry roles, with an emphasis on the practical application of ocean science and technology. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in fields such as marine research, environmental monitoring, and ocean engineering.
