We extend a hearty congratulations to Department Administrator staff member Denise Laible-Brucato for recently receiving the Rutgers University School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Excellence in Student Support Award. This award recognizes Rutgers staff members who have made significant contributions to SGS graduate students and programs. Denise received a commemorative plaque in recognition at the annual Awards Ceremony on May 14th.
Denise has kept our Graduate Program in Oceanography running seamlessly for the past 6 years with tireless hard work. She guides applicants through the admissions process and, once accepted to the graduate program, Denise supports students in moving to campus, registering for courses, and setting up stipends and health benefits. She also ensures that students are set up to meet important milestones through their graduate tenure. Denise expertly manages ALL of this and in so doing, her support of our students provides immeasurable support for our department faculty. But Denise’s character is truly her defining trait. She really cares about the students’ well-being, and she treats everyone like a family member. Denise has an irreverent sense of humor, never thinks anything is impossible, and smiles even when wading through a mountain of work that truly would not get done without her. So from all our graduate students, staff, and faculty: CONGRATULATIONS, Denise, and THANK YOU! This award is very richly deserved. You are truly the best and we really appreciate you!
