We are happy to announce the 2019 winners of the awards as follows:
INTERNATIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARD: Yair Rosenthal | Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences
DMCS is excited and proud of Yair Rosenthal who has been awarded the 2019 School of Environmental and Biological Sciences Award for International Excellence. This award recognizes Yair as one of the most active international faculty at Rutgers conducting research and building lasting partnerships around the world. Yair is a recognized leader in the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program, which is focused on exploring and studying the composition and structure of Earth’s ocean basins. He has built a global consensus and lead international teams that have conducted high profile expeditions. He has developed and lead these large international ocean expeditions in 2013 and 2016. These expeditions had 12 countries involved. Yair has developed partnerships with Indonesia, Norway, Ecuador/Peru, Israel, Japan, Australia, China, and Chile. Yair is one of the most effective international ambassadors for Rutgers, and we cannot think of anyone more deserving of recognition of excellence by SEBS.
OUTREACH EXCELLENCE AWARD: Douglas Zemeckis | Cooperative Extension of Ocean County, Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, NJAES
DMCS is excited and proud of Doug Zemeckis who has been awarded the 2019 School of Environmental and Biological Sciences Award for Outreach Excellence. This award recognizes Doug’s exceptional work in engaging with many stakeholder communities. Over the last couple years, Doug has engaged with various DMCS faculty and staff to ensure Rutgers is serving the needs of stakeholders communities engaged in the the development of offshore wind in our region. He brings the wealth of knowledge from Rutgers University to local communities through science based education programs. He has been instrumental in communicating with these impacted communities to ensure they are both informed of the latest developments in the offshore wind and connected to Rutgers faculty who can address their research inquiries. In the short time since Doug has joined the Rutgers team, he has had a critical impact through the thoughtful outreach he is undertaking with communities across the state.
