On Friday, October 17, 2025, students from the M.S. in Operational Oceanography (MOO) program proudly represented their program, department, and Rutgers University at Stockton University’s Coast Day event. Held at Stockton’s Atlantic City campus, the outreach effort provided a valuable opportunity for MOO students to interact with a wide range of attendees, including local high schoolers exploring future career paths, Stockton undergraduates interested in marine science, and members of regional nonprofit organizations working in coastal resilience and environmental stewardship.
Throughout the event, the MOO students showcased the cutting-edge technologies, applied research, and unique experiential learning opportunities available at Rutgers. From ocean observing systems and glider operations to coastal modeling and fieldwork opportunities, they highlighted how operational oceanography plays a vital role in protecting coastal communities and supporting the blue economy.
With half of the current MOO cohort being proud Stockton alumni, the day also served as a meaningful bridge between the two institutions. Their return as graduate representatives underscored the strong academic pathways in New Jersey that help students grow from curious undergraduates into emerging ocean professionals.
