Please join me in congratulating Shea Cinquemani ,a recent Marine Science major who graduated last May (2025), on her first publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal (Cinquemani, S. M., & Lutz, R. A. (2026). Deep-Sea Hydrothermal Vent and Impact-Generated Hydrothermal Vent Systems: Insights into the Origin of Life. Journal of Marine Science and Engineering, 14(5), 486. https://doi.org/10.3390/jmse14050486). The first draft of the article, entitled “Deep-Sea Hydrothermal Vent and Impact-Generated Hydrothermal Vent systems: Insights into the Origin of Life”, was a review article she wrote as one of the requirements in the undergraduate Hydrothermal Vents course she took last spring,. The final, expanded and rigorously reviewed article was picked up and featured in the Science section of the widely read magazine Popular Mechanics just one week after the article was published in JMSE.
A nice testament to the quality of students in our undergraduate marine science major here at SEBS.
Warm regards,
