This past Saturday, the Department of Marine and Coastal Science opened their doors to hundreds of community members during the annual Rutgers Day event. Visitors of all ages become “Ocean Explorers”, navigating through interactive science exhibits, from the fossils of ancient climates buried deep in the ocean floor, through density-drive ocean circulation, into the drifting life of a plankton, and visiting some local marine creatures at our touch tank before experimenting with their own ocean observing by ballasting gliders. The graduate students’ and outreach team’s hard work preparing was met with great success and we look forward to hosting the community again next year.
