Science payload:

ctd-156

Recovered by Travis Miles and Palmer crew, Tue Dec 28 15:57:52

Route adjusted slightly to get the glider to sample a bit more of the basin. Really need to get it recovered ASAP and after 2 more lines it will position for recovery, re-battery, re-deployment.

Turned glider back to full speed. Retasking to transect the basin a couple times. Please watch for ice, I am uneasy about ice to the south. I have not seen convincing imagery down there for awhile.

Results of first power saving tuning:
AFTER:
-18.4 cm/s, 14 cm/s up
BEFORE:
-22.3 cm/s down, 21.0 up

25% of max speed, with 31% less pump usage.

To get closer to 15 cm/s, we have -18.4 --> -14 cm /s is about .7609 so using 195 + 179 = 374 cc --> 374 / 2 = 187 cc --> 187 * .7609 = 142 cc

Changing dive pump throw to -142 cc

Retasking to Cape Lancaster.
Shortened TBD to 12 sec sampling rate in preparation of entering narrow channels.

put u_max_water_depth_lifetime 0
It was using old altimeter hits just like ru26d

Saving pump power:
-22.3 cm/s down, 21.0 up
540 cc throw * .03% = 16 cc too heavy, shift pump to: -254,+270 --> 524 cc
Speeds should be equal now at -21,21, set target at 15 cm/s so 30 / 42 = 28.6% slowdown:
524 * .286 = 150 cc, so 75 cc on both sides:
-254,+270 --> -179,+195
This is total throw of 374 cc, 374/540 = 69%

Stepping depth down, 50, 150, now 300 double dives to escape islands. Overloaded abort, hopefully c_science_send_all = 0 is working correctly. Will have to check that once we\'re in more open water.

Deployed via zodiac out of Palmer, Travis Miles & co.

Second attempt at deployment following a leak detect abort during the first deployment

Created by: haskins @ 2010-05-13 14:55:00Informational

After leak in Antarctica entire glider was sent to Webb on 4/30/10. Webb is going to investigate CTD leak as well as retrofit the glider with new pump and digifin. All repairs should be covered under warranty.
