Seyed Aboozar Tabatabai
I am primarily interested in realistic modeling of coastal physical processes such as general circulation, pollutant dispersion, sediment transport, and biochemical processes including primary production and carbon cycling in the ocean. Employing statistical and numerical methods combined with operational and experimental oceanography to help elucidate difficult challenges is appealing to me. I recently developed a keen interest in coupling biochemical interactions with physical phenomena, and try to follow a more interdisciplinary approach toward modeling.
I started my college in civil engineering. Working as an engineer helped me develop an analytical approach towards physical processes that surround us. I soon realized my interest in fluid dynamics and I had always loved the sea. This led me to physical oceanography. I chose modeling based on my background in computer programming and its extensive application. My master’s thesis was a 3D simulation of seasonal variability in circulation patterns and water properties in a small omega-shaped bay. From this experience I decided to get involved in more multifarious and interdisciplinary applications of numerical modeling.
