Sea Water Cubicles

Eleven separate small rooms are available. Each is equipped with seawater tables, running seawater, and a biofilter. Three large tanks for organisms or experiments are located outside.

Sea water is collected from Corson’s Inlet State Park on the incoming high tide, transported to the Marine and Coastal Sciences building in a 3,000 gallon capacity fiberglass tank on a truck designed specifically for that purpose. Seawater is pumped through a sand filter to remove large particles and organisms and initially stored in a settling tank. Before use, seawater is pumped to one of 3 distribution tanks. More than 20,000 gallons of seawater can be stored at a time.
