SummaryThis collaborative project is focused on collecting temperature and salinity profiles in the waters in the vicinity of the US
Virgin Islands to investigate the oceans role in modulating hurricane intensity in the region. Specifically, glider data will be
utilized to both validate and improve operational coupled ocean and atmosphere hurricane models. The 5 Naval Oceanographic
gliders deployed in the US Virgin Islands were part of a larger network that included an additional 5 in the vicinity of Puerto
Rico. These gliders were provided and operated by the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) and are part of a larger effort to
deploy and operate over 100 gliders simultaneously. The data these Littoral Battlespace Sensing (LBS) gliders collect is used in
underwater ocean forecasts that support a wide range of naval operations. This glider also carried a Loggerhead Instruments
Remora Acoustic Recorder, but the data from this sensor is not contained in this dataset
