Increased sampling from a 5-second averaging interval to a 3-second averaging interval, resulting in a ~66% increase. At 5 seconds, it was doing 5 MB/day so this seems to check out!
[8:35 AM]dkaragon Steering issues! nomimal fin has been about -5 deg, then it had a bad segment where something happened at surface it appears, spun with heavy PORT (negative fin), last segment it steered but used heavy STARBOARD (positive fin)

[8:55 AM]dkaragon Joe and I trying to decide what to do, got half the file to learn a little but even then we'll be guessing. good news is fin appears still there. going to head it due east to get back on track and we can decide if we want to loiter, continue, or head to south side of island for weekend make sure all is OK. if sargassum would it be worse near islands or open water and I think we're thinking that's probably a wash as long as we're not near any shallow bathy funnels
Pre-weekend conclusion: not looking great for altimeter. It may have missed the bottom twice. Also looked back through old deployments of this front end (ru38) for UGOS and SWOT, both not great altimeter testing missions but I don't see too many convincing hits on those missions either.
So maybe we can go in with some spares for the turn-around. Perhaps even on recover if it can be plopped in either 20 m of water or 30m+ and do some tests.
Probably worth an email to teledyne why ru44 doesn't have 232 on it (our newest), and if we decide to go with replacement parts which do we bring. Well have to revisit this in 2 weeks or so
altimeter_rs232 having issues. many hits < 20 m, had to filter than out with u_min,max altimeter
May have touched bottom last dive, trying to disable filter and maybe then lower reqd in a row
