Technical Questions for
2002 C.O.O.L. Ocean Sciences Presentations CD

Issues with this CD release.

Why don't the videos in the presentations animate?

This is most likely a result of PowerPoint not being able to locate the animation files.  To fix this:

  1. Create the directory C:\cool on your hard drive.
  2. Copy the presentation files and media clips you require to this directory.
  3. Once all files are saved to your drive, you may begin viewing the presentations again.   This should be all you need to do.
  4. However, if the animations still do not play after being copied to your hard drive, then in the "Slide Edit" mode, double-click on the animations and when prompted to select a file, choose the appropriate path selecting either the file copied to your drive or on the CD.  If the animation starts playing when you double-click on it, then it will work properly in the slide-show.
  5. When you are finished viewing the presentations, you may remove the files and directory from your computer.

Please note: You do not need to have the animations loaded for the presentations to work.

Can I load Presentations directly from the CD to my computer?

Absolutely!  All presentations and videos are located on the CD.   Simply choose which file you wish to open using PowerPoint 97 or the PowerPoint 97 Viewer.  Also, should you have appropriate mpg or avi viewer, you may view the animations directly from the CD without PowerPoint.  See your viewer program's documentation for assistance.

What do I do if the CD does not auto-load?

Unfortunately, our auto-run program may not work with all computers or web browsers.  However, the CD may still be run by simply opening the file "index.html" located in the root directory on the CD with your favorite web browser.  You're all set!

Where can I obtain the most recent version of these COOL presentations?

All presentations on this CD are also found on the web at http://marine.rutgers.edu/mrs/coolresults/agu2002/.   Should we make any alterations to these files, the most current version will be available on this website.  As they become available, new presentations will be also added to our website.

Why can't I load any of the presentations?

Even if you do not have Microsoft PowerPoint 97 (often distributed with Microsoft Office), you can still view our presentations using Microsoft's free PowerPoint Viewer.  If you are running the Windows operating system, click here and follow the instructions to automatically load the viewer.  When installation completes, your browser should load the enclosed presentations automatically when you click on them.  If you are running another operating system, please go to the Microsoft Support Site to  find an appropriate version of the free PowerPoint Viewer for your platform.  Below are the System Requirements for the Windows PowerPoint Viewer included on this CD.

With this release, the Microsoft PowerPoint® Viewer 97 now also supports PowerPoint 2000 files. This viewer allows people who use PowerPoint to share their presentations with people who do not have PowerPoint installed on their computers. When you post presentations on the Internet, you can include the PowerPoint Viewer to expand your online audience to people who might not have PowerPoint, or to those with different versions. You can view and print presentations, but you cannot edit them in the PowerPoint Viewer.

Note  This file is for Windows® 95, 98, and 2000 and Windows NT® operating systems only.
