To manually navigate a dataset:
| 1. | Display the image: | |
| a. | Run the imaging function xvu. This will display the Main Menu. | |
| Note: If there are not enough colors to display xvu, run as either: xvu -imcolors 64 or xvu -imcolors 32. | ||
| b. | With the right mouse button, click on the Image menu button and then click on Display. | |
| c. | In the Image Display window, click on Filename. | |
| d. | If you didn't start xvu from the directory that contains your data, select a directory or type the directory path for the image you want to display and click on cd Dir. | |
| e. | Select a filename and click on Accept One. | |
| f. | Click on Variable. | |
| g. | Select a variable from the dataset and click on Accept One. | |
| h. | Click on Run to display the image, and then click on Quit to exit the Image Display window. | |
| 2. | To make it easier to navigate, first zoom in on an area of the image: | |
| a. | With the right mouse button, click on the Image menu button again and then click on Zoom. | |
| b. | In the Zoom window, select "SelectBox," draw a box around an area of the image, and then click with the middle mouse button to select the area. | |
| c. | Click on Run to zoom to the area selected, and then click on Quit to exit the Zoom window. | |
| 3. | If necessary, enhance the image: | |
| a. | If the Main Menu is not visible, with the right mouse button, click in the image and then click on ShowMain. This will re-display the Main Menu. | |
| b. | With the right mouse button, click on the Image menu button again and then click on Enhance. | |
| c. | In the Enhance window, select "TLM" (trackball linear mapping) and press Run. | |
| d. | Now, hold down the left mouse button and drag your cursor in the imaging area—dragging horizontally adjusts contrast and dragging vertically adjusts brightness. When the image is well enhanced, click with the middle mouse button to end enhance mode. | |
| e. | Click on Embed, and then click on Quit to exit the Enhance window. | |
| 4. | TeraVision automatically displays the image with North up. However, xvu does not. If necessary, rotate the image: | |
| a. | With the right mouse button, click on the Image menu button and then click on Orient. | |
| b. | In the Window Orient window, select "Rotate" and "180" and press Run. | |
| c. | Click on Quit to exit the Orient window. | |
| 5. | Navigate the image: | |
| a. | With the right mouse button, click on the Image menu button again and then click on Navigate. | |
| b. | In the Navigate window, click on Reset to use the image defaults. | |
| c. | Click on Coast to apply a coastline. | |
| d. | Make changes as necessary—adjust lines, samples, pitch, time, etc. | |
| e. | To see the results of the changes, select a different color for the coastline and apply again. Repeat as needed. | |
| f. | When the image is well navigated, click on Update to embed the new navigation information into the dataset. | |
| g. | Click on Quit to exit the Navigate window. | |
| 6. | Close the Main Menu window to exit xvu and clean up all the open windows. | |
