Model Ordinances

The JC NERR has compiled a number of model ordinances that may be used to guide development and protect sensitive natural resources. These examples are intended to provide sample language and ideas that may be used to guide other communities in crafting similar ordinances. These ordinances should serve as starting points for towns seeking to adopt regulations on the topics listed below. It is recommended that decision-makers evaluate the model ordinances according to the statutory authority and environmental conditions in their locale.

Shoreline/Waterfront Protection

Landscaping/Tree Protection

Stormwater Management

Water Supply Protection

Open Space

Environmental Impact

Wastewater Management
