Cousteau Center at Bridgeton

Photo: Shepherd House.The Cousteau Center at Bridgeton is housed at the historic David Sheppard House located at 31 West Commerce Street in Bridgeton, New Jersey. The facility was recently restored to serve as a 21st century coastal resource center housing a partner facility of the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve managed by Rutgers University. Programs at the new Center will bring science-based information to enrich education and inform management of coastal resources in south Jersey. Formal and informal education and training programs will address local and regional concerns for sustainable economic development and conservation of the environment and coastal resources in Cumberland County.

From North or Central Jersey Via NJ Turnpike:

Take NJ Turnpike south to Exit 2 Swedesboro, Chester, PA, US Route 322 Exit. After tollbooth, bear right onto US Route 322 East to Glassboro, Atlantic City and Bridgeton. Travel about 3 miles to the traffic light in Mullica Hill and make a right. Stay straight and follow signs for Route 77 South and Bridgeton.Travel about 19 miles on Route 77 to Bridgeton. Route 77 becomes four lanes at a major intersection and traffic light in Bridgeton. A shopping center and Wawa on right, and a State Police headquarters on left. Continue down Route 77 also known as Pearl Street. Make a right onto Commerce Street. Drive two blocks, cross the Cohansey River. The Cousteau Center at Bridgeton will be on the right at the next intersection, Mayor Aiken Drive and Commerce Street.

From Route 55:
Take exit 32B for RT-56 W toward Rosenhayn. Keep right at the fork to continue toward Landis Ave/RT-56 and merge onto Landis Ave/RT-56 for about 8 miles. Slight left at RT-77 and drive about 2.5 miles. Make a right onto Commerce Street and continue as above.

From Center City Philadelphia, PA:

Take I-676 East to the Ben Franklin Bridge into New Jersey. After bridge, stay straight to go onto I-676 South.Stay straight to go onto NJ-42 South. Take NJ-55 South towards eptford/Glassboro/Vineland to the Rosenhayn Exit (about 27 miles). Take exit 32B for RT-56 W toward Rosenhayn. Keep right at the fork to continue toward Landis Ave/RT-56 and merge onto Landis Ave/RT-56 for about 8 miles. Slight left at RT-77 and drive about 2.5 miles. Make a right onto Commerce Street and continue as above.

From Delaware Memorial Bridge:
Head southeast on I 295. Take State Route 49 E approx 25 miles. Turn left at Franklin Street. Turn right onto Commerce Street and continue as above.

From Cape May County:
Head north on N Delsea Drive NJ-47. Right onto NJ 55. Exit at Exit 24 for NJ-49W. Turn left at E. Main Street/NJ-49. Turn left at E. Broad Street. Turn right on Atlantic Street. Turn left onto W. Commerce Street and continue as above.
