Research Interests:
My interest in sediment transport spans physical, geological and ecological aspects. My recent research explores particle aggregation dynamics and particle constituents in urban and relatively unindustrialized estuaries. These processes involve the physical energy of the estuaries as well as the benthic fauna. I am also studying the effects of dredging in urban estuaries on sedimentation rates and evolution of tidal channels through the sediment stratigraphy. My masters thesis explored the geomorphodynamics of tidal creeks and its relation to tidal energy, topograpy, and biological habitat as expressed by the sinuousity of the tidal creek patterns. I am also involved in an interdisciplinary project that compares the importance of physical mixing and flushing to biologically mediated nitrogen flux rates in a shallow lagoon. The median residence time is measured by numerical modeling with a 2D finite element hydrodynamic model coupled with a drogue tracking module.
