The REU program was set up through funding from the National Science Foundation and is run by a consortium of faculty from the Department of Biology at the Rutgers Camden Campus, headed by Drs. John Dighton and Georgia Arbuckle-Keil.
The Rutgers Pineland Field Station is a remote field station of Rutgers University located in Brendan Byrne State Forest. The forest is within the pine barrens ecosystem, which occupies about one third of the area of the most densely populated state in the US. It is here that students will start their REU experience before continuing their research in the laboratories of individual faculty mentors.
Rutgers University has three main campus sites, New Brunswick/Piscataway, Newark and Camden. The Rutgers University Camden Campus is the southern most Rutgers Campus, directly across the bridge from historic Center City Philadelphia. Following its decline from a port and manufacturing city Camden is now developing around the waterfront near the campus. Highlights within walking distance of the campus include the Adventure Aquarium, the Battleship New Jersey Museum, The Camden Riversharks minor league baseball stadium, The Tweeter Center and the Wiggins Park marina. Travel to and from the campus is easy via ferry bus or rail: the Delaware River ferry, New Jersey Transit, PATCO light rail and the RiverLine.
