Pulse Bios: Julie Shutz
Julie Shutz has been working in the field of education since 1983 - first as an elementary school librarian, and then as an elementary school educator. She received her B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Maine, summa cum laude, where she was initiated into the PHI KAPPA PHI Honor Society. Julie was New Jersey’s Ocean County Teacher of the Year for 2004-2005, and most recently listed in “Cambridge’s Who’s Who” for 2007. She was the recipient of a Technology, Science and Math Award grant from FirstEnergy in 2005, and earned an in-house technology grant this past year for $6,000. Using the grant, she was the first in her district to utilize Promethean’s Activboard technology in her classroom. A member of NEA, NJEA, WEA, OCCEA and a Rutgers trained MARE teacher – this fall Julie will start her tenth year of teaching fifth grade at Frederic A. Priff School, in the Ocean Township school district of Waretown, NJ. Julie resides in New Gretna, NJ with her husband, George, and three daughters: Jesse Rae, Sophia, and Rose.
