Pulse Bios: Laura Dunbar
Laura Dunbar is a middle school science teacher with 11 years of experience who holds certification in Elementary, Middle School Science, and Secondary English. Determined to bring ocean science to desert dwellers, while living in Arizona she participated in Extreme 2000 Voyage to the Deep during which her classroom received a call from Dr. Craig Cary, lead scientist aboard Alvin a mile below the surface exploring hydrothermal vents. Laura has taken over 160 students to Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI). A graduate of the US Naval Academy, Laura spent 6 years working with Underwater Sound Surveillance before receiving her teacher certification and Masters in Education Administration from Chapman University . Current projects include an annual analysis of Wreck Pond and Beach Profile of Sea Girt. During the summer Laura works for Rutgers Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences. She is a member of NJSTA, NSTA, NJMEA, SWMEA, NMEA, Manasquan River Watershed Association, and volunteers for Barnegat Bay Estuary Program.
