Marine Science Field Trips and Programs

This field trip and programs guide is the teachers' resource supplement to the Project Tomorrow program from the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences (IMCS) at Rutgers University. It specifically is a companion resource to the MARE: Marine Activities, Resources & Education program from the Lawrence Hall of Science at the University of California at Berkeley, currently being implemented in selected New Jersey elementary and middle schools. Each field trip site description offers a general overview of the site itself along with the programs, staff availability, logistics, and directions to the site. Habitats are identified for each detailed field site, which correlates to the MARE teachers guide to various marine habitats.

This guide will introduce educators and administrators to the wealth of resources available in New Jersey. These resources make it possible to transform an entire school into a laboratory for the discovery and exploration of the ocean. Students take field trips to beaches and salt marshes, meet expert speakers, and conduct exciting hands-on learning projects. We hope this guide will help you take advantage of some of the resources around you.
