The dataset is derived from NASA's CZCS (Coastal Zone Color Scanner) pigment data, or the satellite ocean color data, with assistance from Kevin Turpie (NASA/GSFC). Monthly data consist of averages computed over a three years period (November 1978 - October 1981; first three-year of data provided by CZCS). Linear interpolations, based on the neighboring pixels and data representing neighboring months, are applied to complete missing data. The data files are 2048x1024 pixels binary files.

The dataset is provided by Peter Minnett (University of Miami) and originated from U.S. Navy Marine Climatic Atlas of the World (CD-Marine), Version 1.0 (March 92), produced by Naval Oceanography Command Detachment Asheville and the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It includes 12 monthly average sea surface temperature (SST) data files interpolated into 2048 X 1024 pixels.

The dataset is provided by Zulema Garraffo (Columbia University) and Jim Bishop (NASA/GISS) and originated from SeaWiFS' (Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor) ISCCP (International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project) data. The 12 monthly irradiance data files with clouds, the ideal PAR distribution without clouds, and the photo-period (day length) distribution at different times of the year and on different locations of the earth, can be accessed and downloaded. The data files are interpolated into 2048 x 1024 pixels.
