Highlights

On June 25, 2007 WNBC aired "Undersea Dangers for Barnegat Bay" by Brian Thompson, a piece on Mike Kennish's work on Barnegat Bay. According to Brian Thompson, new research by RU shows that nitrogen entering the bay from land runoff, the atmosphere, and groundwater is polluting bay waters. The nitrogen is stimulating excessive growth of algae that is detrimental to vital seagrass habitat. The explosive growth of the algae blocks out sunlight to the seagrass, which is essential habitat for bay scallops, clams, and some finfish species.
