Highlights
- Congratulations to… Paul Falkowski and Scott Glenn. Paul
was one of the recipients of the Board of Trustees Award for Excellence
in Research, and Scott was one of the recipients of the Faculty
Scholar-Teacher Award.
- B.J. Choi passed his Ph.D. Qualifying Examination on May 25.

- Just published: Nordstrom, K.F. 2000. Beaches and Dunes of Developed
Coasts. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 338 p.
- Karl Nordstrom has also just received a Development grant from
NJ Sea Grant: "Opportunities for nature based tourism on
natural, restored and intensively used beaches and dunes in coastal
municipalities in New Jersey.”
- There will be a planning meeting between Rutgers (mostly IMCS),
Princeton, and Goddard Space Flight Center at Princeton on 26
June to discuss the formation of a consortium to participate in
NASA's astrobiology program. If interested, contact Paul Falkowski

Meetings Attended
- Sybil Seitzinger attended the American Geophysical Union meeting
in Washington, DC on May 30 and presented the following invited
talk: “ Nitrogen Retention in Rivers Measurements and Model
Estimation,” Sybil P. Seitzinger, Renée V. Styles,
Beth Boyer, Richard Alexander, Gilles Billen, Robert Howarth,
Bernhard Mayer, Nico vanBreemen, Andrew E. Laursen.
- During the week of June 5, Sybil attended the ASLO meeting in
Copenhagen and presented the following talk: “Bioavailability
and Chemical Composition of Dissolved Organic Nitrogen in Natural
and Pollutant Sources to Aquatic Ecosystems,” Seitzinger,
S.P., Mazurek, M.A., Styles, R.M., Lauck, R., Wiegner, T. Rutgers
University, IMCS, New Brunswick, NJ; Sanders, R.W., Temple University,
