Student News
- Ngou Sou and Bridget Wade presented a poster at the Third Annual
Aresty Undergraduate Research Symposium, Rutgers University, April
20th 2007, entitled "Ice age at the Eocene/Oligocene transition."
Ngou Sou was winner
of Aresty Symposium best poster presentation.
- AJ Francavilla of Vernon, NJ, joins IMCS as a summer intern
with Mike De Luca as his mentor. This fall he will be a returning
senior at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA. AJ is a bio major
with a focus in environmental science, "my project with Mike
De Luca is to work on supportive efforts and research of the Costal
Zone Management Act of 1972's reauthorization. Other projects
include CZ Visioning Workshops, observing estuary managers meetings,
and interacting with the numerous research projects involved with
the JCQ Estuary."
- Jaclyn Taylor (MS student in Ecology & Evolution working
in Dave Bushek's lab) was selected as a recipient for the 2008
National Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship:
The Knauss fellowship, established in 1979, provides a unique
educational experience to students who have an interest in ocean,
coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy
decisions affecting those resources. The program matches highly
qualified graduate students with "hosts" in the legislative
and executive branch of government located in the Washington,
D.C.area, for a one year paid fellowship. The program is named
in honor of one of Sea Grant's founders, former NOAA Administrator,
John A. Knauss. The fellowship will begin in Feb 2008. More
details are available at http://www.seagrant.noaa.gov/knauss/
Let's Welcome
Bin Zhang a May 2007 graduate of Old Dominion University, with
a degree in Physical Oceanography, joins Dale Haidvogel's Ocean
Modeling group as a postdoc. Bin will be working with Hernan Arango,
Julia Levin, and Enrique Curchitser. "My Ph.D. thesis focused
on the modeling study of Antarctic Circumpolar Current fronts in
Drake Passage using ROMS. I will be working on the ocean data assimulation
project in the Philippine Seas. My research interests include numerical
methods, data assimilation, Southern Ocean dynamics and North Pacific
freshwater estimation." (Room 214A, Ext. 253)
Congratulations!
