IMCS SST & North Wall Data Region
pub/DAMEE97/gulfstream/walls
The above diagram shows the set up of the pub/DAMEE97/gulfstream
directory.
The North walls were digitized every 5 days in the Gulf Stream Meander and
Ring region (35-45N, 45-76W). 55 out of 73 possible north walls were digitized.
The accuracies of these 55 north walls was determined from the amount of
1 kilometer SST available from our Remote Sensing Lab. The README.walls file
explains the details of the dataset. Here is the breakdown:
3-Highest quality - 90% coverage - 22 walls
2-Medium quality - 75% coverage - 22 walls
1-Low quality - 50% coverage - 11 walls
0-Not enough data for digitizing - 19

Every satelllite image received at IMCS in 1993, was reprocessed at a 1
kilometer resolution using algorithms similar
to the Pathfinder algorithms used by JPL. The MAJOR difference is that
the IMCS data were not compared to climatology, which would have removed the
cloudy areas. Therefore, there are clouds in this data, which make them
less useful for assimilation. If you are planning to use the data for
assimilation, use the JPL data. These images were used to make the nortwalls.

How much space will this take up on my hard drive? A lot.....
level3 -- 1858 images - 235 megs. (each image is 2.5 megs. uncompressed)
level23 - 2089 images - 503 megs. (each image is 2.5 megs. uncompressed)
walls ---- 55 files --- 0.5 megs.
