This remotely controlled vehicle measures temperature, salinity (how much salt is in the water), depth, optical back scatter (how dirty the water is), current speeds and directions, and fluorescence (phytoplankton content of the water). Additionally, the Turbulence REMUS is used over short distances (less than 10 kilometers) to measure the microstructure turbulence and viscosity of the ocean.
