Gulfstream Buoys - Today
This image shows buoy movements in the Gulfstream region. Many
different research and governmental groups put buoys into the ocean for
various reasons. Here you see the movements of these buoys between the
times indicated on the top left of the image. Knowing these
times you can determine the speeds of the currents that the buoys are
located in. The blue lines are the buoy tracks and the
red + indicates
the first point in the buoy track.
Now, there are some problems with this data. As with all the data presented
on our homepage, there is no human intervention and therefore there may and willbe some problems with the data. The most obvious is where you see perfectly
straight tracks in the water. This is due to data misses, dropouts or errors
that were not filtered out. Unfortunately there are errors that are
not that obvious, so be careful. The only way to get the raw data and determine
the errors is to cough up a lot of $$$$$$. Sorry....
