It's Time for the 10th Annual Shore Bowl Academic Competition,
Hosted by IMCS and JCNERR

Science Bowl When:  March 6, 2010
Who:  Volunteers needed (i.e., YOU!)
Time:  7:30am - 5pm (rooms are eliminated as the day goes on so you might be able to leave earlier if needed)
Where:  Busch Campus Center- Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ

For those of you unfamiliar with this event, it's an annual academic competition for high school students based on the ocean sciences sponsored by the Consortium for Ocean Leadership. Topics include physics, biology, chemistry, geology, geography, social science, and technology. Students compete in teams of five to test their knowledge with hopes of advancing to the National Ocean Sciences Bowl, where they compete against other winning teams around the country. This year they are competing to go to Nationals in St. Petersburg, FL.

Folks are needed to serve as moderators, scientific judges, rules judges, scorekeepers and timekeepers. A description of the competition, which includes a brief description of the needed jobs, is attached as well as additional job information. We especially need scientific judges (i.e., ADVANCED GRAD STUDENTS, POST-DOCS, and especially FACULTY!) and Moderators (responsible for running each match). All training is provided and you are required to attend a Shore Bowl training (even if you have joined us before). Trainings are currently set for January 20th at IMCS in New Brunswick and January 28th at JC NERR in Tuckerton. If you absolutely cannot attend either of these meetings please let me know so we can make other arrangements.

This year for your participation you will receive a half zip microfleece pullover, breakfast, and lunch on the day of competition. Please consider giving a few hours of your time to help out with this IMCS-hosted event. The students work very hard to prepare for this competition and your help is critical. I guarantee you'll enjoy yourself and be amazed at the oceanographic knowledge of these motivated high school students.
