Research Interests:Jason Sylvan
I am currently finishing my master’s thesis on alkaline phosphatase activity (APA) in the Mississippi River Plume. I used fluorescent substrates to look at fluctuating APA and found high activity to be generally concurrent with high river flow. For my PhD research, I would like to examine the molecular biology of alkaline phosphatase and perhaps other ectoenzymes in phytoplankton and bacterioplankton.

Personal Interests:
Outside of the lab, I spend most of my time playing guitar and tending to my pets, of which I have too many.
