Marine phytoplankton ecology; bio-optics; effectsof UV radiation on phytoplankton
Research efforts in my laboratory are focused on the physiological ecology of phytoplankton and the corresponding impact of phytoplankton population dynamics on both the chemical and optical properties of aquatic environments. Secondarily our research is focused on the development of novel new optical instruments which will allow researchers to study phytoplankton dynamics on relevant spatial/temporal scales. Currently we have ongoing studies off the coast of New Jersey, in the Neuse River-Estuary, and the Gulf of Mexico. Laboratory work is currently focused on understanding the synergistic interactions of light, nutrients, and temperature.
Personal interests include basketball and home-brewing of beer.
