Total: 200 points
Rules
1) No Make-up labs, doesn’t work well for you or the TA. If you
miss a lab without notice and no doctor’s note (I call to check, after
2 years people trying to sneak by), then you swallow a grade. If
you give a weeks notice (the Friday before), then you can write a
science review paper (due the day lab reports are due) based on a
subject of my choosing and the questions I ask. This review will
require 3 primary references not in the paper, so it represents more
work than the lab. This sounds harsh but the last 3 years 2
students each year made the soft approach unworkable.
2) If you are going to miss the cruise, you need to give 3 weeks notice
and will be given a cruise preparation task, again not a trivial amount
of work.
3) Lab reports will be in approved lab notebooks. A good notebook
with detailed notes counts as an extra grade. It is a skill to be
developed for any career in science.
4) Anyone calling Dave or Oscar professor will lose 5 points from their overall
grade.
5) A lab report is due each Friday by the end of the afternoon lab in
my office or in my mailbox after the lab. By the next Monday by 5
PM, 30% is automatically deducted. By Wednesday 5 PM 50%
off. By next Friday lecture 95% off.
6) Final paper, has same automatic deduction schedule as the lab
reports. This is the part of the class where people flunk.
7) No make-ups on Oral reports.
8) Don’t beg to change the rules, keep your dignity and pay the piper.
