What Does an
Oceanographer Look Like?
On July 27, 2001, Randy Olson has done it again. Check out the
new downloadable one minute film by Randy, and find out what an
oceanographer really looks like. You might be very surprised. Be
sure to show it to any ocean-loving kids nearby!
Does Diane Sawyer Swim?
On July 3, 2001, Diane Sawyer commented on her ocean preferences
by relating the COOLroom and "wee wee water" (her term,
trust us, it's not ours).
COOL and NBC Air Ocean
Weather
Just in time for the Memorial weekend (May 25, 2001), scientists
from the Rutgers University Coastal Ocean Observation Lab and
meteorologists from NBC10 in Philadelphia have teamed up to bring
you the latest Ocean Weather forecasts
right to your TV. Now you will have the latest weather and ocean
weather information to help you best prepare for your summer trips
down to the shore.
Long-range Coastal Ocean
Currents Now Available
For almost 3 years, Rutgers University's Coastal Ocean
Observation Lab has been measuring coastal ocean surface currents
between the towns of Brant Beach and Brigantine, New Jersey. As of
May 24, 2001, thanks to the installation of a new Long-range
CODAR system, the COOL Lab can bring to scientists and the
public maps of coastal currents along the entire coast of New
Jersey.
Waves Added to the
COOLroom
The week of April 27, 2001, scientists in the COOL Lab added wave
measurements from the Coastal Radars to the Boater's and
Swimmer's sections of the site. These measurements, from Brant Beach
and Brigantine, include hourly averaged wave heights and periods.
The most recent measurements are displayed and updated approximately
every hour. The curious can also find graph of the week-long wave
history for each location.
Congressmen Visit
the COOL Lab
Science Coalition Presents Awards to
Congressmen in the COOL Lab on April 16, 2001. Rutgers President
Francis L. Lawrence and Princeton University President Harold T.
Shapiro presented US Reps. Rodney P. Frelinghuysen (R-NJ-11th) and
Rush Holt (D-NJ-12th) with the Science
Coalition's Champion of Science awards during ceremonies at
Rutgers' Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences (IMCS) in New
Brunswick.

This coming summer, you can turn to your local TV weather station
to find the latest ocean water temperatures and beach forecasts
