The diagram below shows the set up of the pub/DAMEE97/SST directory. The Pathfinder JPL dataset contains all the images for DATA ASSIMILATION. These data cover the entire Atlantic Ocean at a resolution of 9 kilometers. There is a README file in the JPL directory. This file will explain all the details about the contents of the dataset.

level23.d ----- 363 files ---- 142 megs.

level3.a ------ 364 files ---- 140 megs.

level3.d ------ 363 files ---- 128 megs.

patch23.a ----- 073 files ---- 57 megs.

patch23.d ----- 073 files ---- 54 megs.

patch3.a ------ 073 files ---- 57 megs.

patch3.d ------ 073 files ---- 54 megs.

warm.5day23.a -- 073 files ---- 52 megs.

warm.5day23.d -- 073 files ---- 50 megs.

warm.5day3.a --- 073 files ---- 55 megs.

warm.5day3.d --- 073 files ---- 53 megs.

.d are descending AVHRR passes and .a are ascending AVHRR passes. Level3 data are only the "best data" as decided by the Pathfinder algorithms. These data do not contain any clouds. Level23 data does contain some cloud effects. Therefore, level3 is the best data for assimilation.
