R/V CAPE HATTERAS
Thursday 4/29
Cape Hatteras arrive sometime in the afternoon. Exact time of
arrival will depends on when they leave Norfolk VA.
Begin Loading Boat.
Friday 4/30 .
Finish loading boat and set up. IF all goes well we may test
equipment in Harbor.
Saturday 5/1.
AM Run transect up Hudson River to head of salt. There
might be a few day trippers on this survey-- including the press.
Afternoon return to Staten island, drop off day trippers and pick up
rest of scientific crew and
head out to sea and begin survey of the plume. I anticipate running
6-8 cross-shelf across the plume survey (~15-20 km each). This
survey should take approximately 12 hours to complete and leave us
about 30 miles south of the injection location. Ideally we
would finish these transects in the early morning hours
of 5/2 and steam north to the injection site. If all is going
well I would hope that we would
be able to begin our watch schedule during the survey.
Sunday 5/2
6am arrive at approximate injection site and run cross-shelf section
to determine center of plume-- then head back to the center of plume
and inject dye near the surface (7-8 am)
We then follow the dye for as long as we can detect it. We
anticipate being able to do this until Thursday/Friday. If we
lose the signal on Thursday- I'd suggest we do one more large-scale
survey of the plume and head back to Staten Island Friday. If we're
still on dye Friday-- we'll have to let it go so that we can get
back to the dock Friday afternoon to give everyone time to unload in
time for the Cape Hatteras departure on Sunday AM 5/9.
