Background on the town of Tuckerton

Tuckerton is a small town of about ten square miles, and is where the Dormitory and Marine Field Station are located (ok, the field station is technically located in Egg Harbor, but I digress). The web site www.tuckerton.com can give you some good ideas on places to eat, sleep and shop. The Tuckerton Seaport is a brand new artsy/toursity area that just went up in May, 2000. It contains lots of shops and historical information on Tuckerton.

How to get there

Here is a series of three maps (click to enlarge) that show the location of the field station and dormitory. The directions are as follows:

FROM THE PARKWAY: The field station is locatated about 13.2 minutes from exit 58 on the Garden State Parkway, about 2.5 hours south of New York City, and about 1.5 hours south east of Philadelphia PA. When you get off the parkway get on Rt. 539 south (from the north it's a left, from the south it's a right). Proceed to the first light (Rt. 9) and make a right on route 9 south. At approximately 0.4 miles the road will fork and you will need to bear left on to Great Bay Boulevard. Continue to the end of the boulevard (about 6.5 miles). The field Station is on your right. It's difficult to miss considering there are no other buildings or large trees for 3 miles.

FROM PHILADELPHIA: Take the Atlantic City Expressway to the Garden State Parkway. Get on the Parkway going north and get off at exit 58. Follow the directions above.
