Scotscar Log - July 13, 2001
Friday, July 13, 2001 From Scott Friday, July 13, 2001 A classic upwelling day. We haven't had it this good since 1998, the start of this series of four Coastal Predictive Skill Experiments. Cold water is about halfway out the southern lines, but very nearshore along the northern lines. Caleta repeated yesterday's survey. Found a strong subsurface jet nearshore along the N3 line that wasn't there yesterday. But it was above the thermocline. High phytoplankton concentrations below this. Is the jet scouring the bottom, mixing the water column, and entraining phytoplankon as it flows south? Looking forward to the Sunday night forecast.
