Today's Atmospheric/Ocean Weather

Morning Evening

ATMOSPHERE --- Southwesterlies began to dominate this afternoon, and strong ones at that. Temps were in the upper 70s. Is upwelling far away?

Plots of today's weather data from the Field Station are shown below. Times are in GMT.

OCEAN -- The thermocline began to inch it's way back in to shore today in response to the southwesteries. It's moved 3 kilometers inshore during the last couple of days. There is a STRONG Chlorophyll bloom inshore, and a definite break about 6 kilometers from the beach. The press has picked up on the odor of the plankton, and is interviewing a bunch of us on the subject.
