Today's Atmospheric/Ocean Weather

Morning
Evening
ATMOSPHERE --- It was rough. Winds were from the Northeast at 15 to 20 knots for most of the day driving a mixing/downwelling event inshore. Most of the boats were forced to whimp out and stay in the back bays, except for the mighty 32 foot Caleta, which stayed out in 6-8 foot seas for 11 hours. Highs were about 70 while lows were in the low 60s.
Plots of today's weather data from the Field Station are shown below. Times are in GMT.

OCEAN -- IT WAS ROUGH!! 5-8 foot seas for most of the day. The downwelling from yesterday continued, but the cold water is only about 6 kilometers offshore.
SPECTACULAR CALIBRATION DAY - Rutgers, NRL, Oregon State sat side by side in Great Bay, under the gorgeous Tuckerton skies intercalibrating AC9s, Hydroscats, and several different reflectance meters. Everybody was happy. A day that looked like a washout, may have been the most important day of the experiment both optically and physically.
Did I mention that the optical profiler has been profiling for 24 straight hours?
