ATMOSPHERE -- Another wonderful day. Winds are from the west, but so minute that they should not impact the downwelling in progress. High temperatures should be around 80 while the low was about 69F. This is, however, the calm before the storm. Saturday could be a VERY bad weather day..... (imagine Jaws theme music as you read this).

OCEAN -- Did I mention that there was a downwelling in progress? No? Well there is, even though it is fairly weak. The CODAR surface current measurements are being dominated by tidal velocities rather than wind induced currents at this time (see Below). In other words, there isn't a heck of a lot happeng on the surface in terms of current speeds.
Today the R/V Caleta ran a series of transects to further investigate the influence of along shelf topography on the flow to the south of the A-line. Two radiator patterns were run over the deepest part of the trough. Unfortunately, topographic steering of the flow field was not observed due to weak winds and currents.
