The IMCS Educational Web Page: Software Section

The IMCS Educational Software Web page comprises of 2 sections. The first section describes several Oceanography related software packages. The software developed in MATLAB is available for download, whereas the JAVA applet is available for direct use on the current page. The second section consists of a link to class notes and a link to a JAVASCRIPT enabled sample exam.

The first MATLAB application is a water wave animation program that graphically illustrates the functional interdependence of various water wave parameters. It allows the user to input the wave amplitude, wave period, and water depth, and then generates an animation based on these parameters. During the animation, the user may click on any point, at, or below the 0-depth, of the Animation Window, so as to display the elliptical motion of the water particles.

The second MATLAB application is a multiple water wave animation that may be used to graphically illustrate a wide variety of wave interference phenomena. Some examples include, Constructive/Destructive Interference, Spring/Neap Tides, Standing Waves and Beats. The user must input the wave amplitude, wave period, wave phase, wave direction, and water depth for 2 waves, and the application will generate and animate the resultant interference pattern.

The following JAVA applet is an advection-diffusion simulation. It allows the user to input an advection and diffusion rate and then generates a simulation based on these parameters.

The following JAVA applet is an STP to density converter. It allows the user to input a salinity, temperature and pressure value and then computes the corresponding density.
