Welcome to the Slocum Electric Glider Fleet homepage at the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences! On October 28, 2003, a single Slocum Coastal Electric Glider (built by Webb Research Corporation) was deployed at the LEO-15 site in Tuckerton, New Jersey. The glider was tasked with a single mission: to fly 120km offshore to the continental shelf break, surfacing periodically to transmit hydrographic (salinity and temperature) data back to mission control at IMCS. The successful completion of the mission and recovery of the glider over 2 weeks later signaled the dawn of the age of autonomous underwater vehicles as longterm, realtime operational oceanographic tools.

This page is the gateway to the IMCS glider fleet. Monitor active deployments, search through our mission archives and learn more about the projects we have and are currently participating in. Check the News, Notes and Additions section for updates on scheduled deployments and recoveries, additions to the ever expanding glider fleet as well as links and more information on the slocum gliders and their scientfic payloads. Read the latest Publications related to gliders.

Welcome to the future of Oceanography!
