Mid-Atlantic
Bight - National Undersea Research Center (MAB-NURC)
NOAA's Undersea Research Center for the Middle Atlantic Bight
region (MAB) seeks to understand the processes governing change
and stability at spatial and temporal scales not obtainable
with conventional oceanographic techniques. Since its creation
in 1992, the Center has focused on establishing Long-term
Ecosystem Observatories (LEO's) that enable multi-disciplinary
science using in situ observations and manipulations. At LEO-15,
scuba and sea floor observatory studies have described recruitment
of fish and benthic invertebrates, and the effects of waves
and currents on sediment and pollutant transport, sea floor
characteristics, and benthic community dynamics.
